Crazy Effective Content Marketing Promotion

Great content can go far, bringing in boatloads of traffic for years. That being said, even the most well-written and well-researched content always needs at least an initial push! This is where content marketing promotion comes in.

The Importance of Knowing Your Audience

Promoting your content is more complex than simply throwing it onto social media and hoping for the best. You need to know your audience. You can figure this out by doing a few different things:

  • Look through Quora, various subreddits, Facebook groups, LinkedIn groups, forums, and more to see what kinds of questions people are asking about your industry, products, or services.

  • Take this information and see if you can further define where they hang out. Are they only active on these forums or subreddits, or are they talking about other sites they go to?

  • Check the sites they mention and see if those sites accept guest posts or have any kind of contact info. You can use Hunter.io or other free tools to find this info easily.

Once you know your audience, you can join the groups they frequent, answer appropriate questions on Quora with links to your content, and hunt for guest post opportunities on sites your audience loves.

But how do you pitch these sites?

Pitching Your Content

Once your ideal site to pitch in mind, it’s time to craft an email that really sells your content and voice.

Look at the target site’s current front page and see what kind of articles they’re writing. Once you’ve got a good idea of their offerings, write an email that uses an appropriate tone.

Next, make a formal introduction and quickly get to the point. Editors and writers for larger sites can receive hundreds of these pitch emails every day. If you don’t quickly pitch your article, your email will get lost in the shuffle.

Entice the editor or writer with a nice hook about your article or potential article, but don’t give too many details. Note how it’s different from other articles out there, how it will help their audience, and then close the email with a quick thanks. Anymore and they won’t read the entire thing.

While pitching and landing guest posts is important, don’t neglect your own channels. Share your articles with your own social media followings, and make sure to email your list about new articles or services when appropriate!
